Commonwealth Games project

bullet

During the Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne in March 2006,  there is a textile exhibition Threading the Commonwealth.

bullet

One element of this exhibition is the Canopy of the Commonwealth. This will be displayed in the RMIT Gallery foyer in March 2006.

bullet

The canopy has been designed using the colours and shapes of the flags of the Commonwealth Countries as inspiration. The flags are a representation, not the actual flags of each country.

bullet

I have contributed with a scrumbled segment that will be part of this canopy.  The thoughts behind my piece is that this is the BRITISH Commonwealth Games.  So I have used a Union Jack flag and red, white and blue as my colourway for the scrumbling.

Jenny has just published her first book on Scrumbling.

cover_jennys_book.JPG (4310023 bytes)

The title of this book is "Freeform Knitting and Crochet".

This book  is published by Sally Milner Publishing Pty Ltd.  The Universal identification is ISBN 1 86351 327 2.

Ask your local craft bookshop to order one so you can examine it before you purchase.

The introductory chapter on colour is excellent as the choice of your "colourway" is the key to successful scrumbling.  And if you get one colour wrong, it is easily discarded - no messy chemicals or wastage here.  Just save the yarn for another project!

Below is a link to view some Happy Snaps from the Scrumblers Unite Forum held at Geelong in October 2003.
